The Big Winter Coat Guide: Look for Less

The weather is almost to the point that a coat will be a daily staple to any outfit. It may be the last thing you put on but your coat is an important element to an outfit. From classic to statement maker I love to add a new topper to my wardrobe. I've been looking at a wide variety of coats and narrowed it down to 4 styles I particularly love this season. I found the coats at different price points as well.

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6

A classic dress coat never goes out of style. If you are going to invest in a coat, this would be my pick. I got this coat in black as a birthday gift a few years ago and wear it all the time each winter! It goes equally well with work clothes and nice dresses. It's perfect for any winter weddings or nice events you have. As a bonus, the double-cloth wool is warm enough even for your coolest days!

Nothing is cozier than fur when it is cold out. What I love most about fur is how it cam be both casual and dressy. These coats are a bit of a statement maker and can be the focus of your outfit. This two-tone coat would look great with distressed jeans, a simple black sweater and black booties.

I've been really drawn to a leopard coat and it is high on my wishlist! I'm ready to wrap up in it all Winter long.

Plaid is synonymous with Fall and Winter. I love plaid flannels and scarves as my go to casual look when the leaves change. A plaid coat is great mix on the classic wool coat. This menswear inspired plaid in a lady like cut is my favorite. I love the masculine and feminine mixture!

For more casual days, a parka keeps you warm and still stylish. The little details keep a parka from lookinng frumpy. Faux fur adds a touch of glamour to the coat. A nipped in waist on this coat keeps a flattering shape when you layer anything bulky under it. Most puffer jackets are warm but not known to be flattering. This one has banding in the back that gives you a waist!

Fall Wish List

It seems like every conversation about Fall revolves around the weather. It's true I love how the temps cool down and even love the dreary day but what I love most is Fall fashion. Some of my favorite items, leather, sweaters, boots and scarves, all get pulled out this time of year. As with any new season I come up with a few things I want to add to my wardrobe to mix in with the favorite items I already have. This Fall i have it down to 4 items: Leopard booties, black bodysuit, crimson boots and corduroy skirt.

Leopard Booties
1 - 2 - 3

Black Bodysuit

 1 - 2 - 3

Crimson Boots

 1 - 2 - 3

Corduroy Skirt

Fall Reading List

I've done book posts in the past here and here and they are typically reviews of books I've already read. This time I thought I would share what is on my list to read! Between download books for my trip last month and the ones I've ordered, I have quite a list to get thru over the next few months.

Image result for confidence creator

Confidence Creator by Heather Monahan - In the middle of listening to the Author on the Lady Gang podcast, I ordered her book. Her point of view and philosophy on career and life were refreshing. I'm not a fan of all self-help books but this one seems to be the kind for me. She uses personally anecdotes of both success and failures in her life to make her points across.

Cravings: Hungry for More by [Teigen, Chrissy, Sussman, Adeena]

Cravings Hungry for More by Chrissy Teigen - I know, I know... this is a cookbook, why should it be included on a reading list. Well if you are a fan of Chrissy Teigen, you know her cookbook would be more than just recipes. I just got this book in the mail and I've started to read the stories and anecdotes that she includes with each recipe. I've also picked out the first few recipes I need to make ASAP.

The Wedding Date by [Guillory, Jasmine]

The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory - This would be defined as the perfect beach read but since Fall is here let's call it the perfect curl up by a fireplace read. After getting stuck in an elevator a guy asks the girl to accompany her to a wedding the next day. Could one fun night really evolve into anything more?

Who Thought This Was a Good Idea?: And Other Questions You Should Have Answers to When You Work in the White House by [Mastromonaco, Alyssa]

Who Thought This Was a Good Idea by Lauren Oyler, Alyssa Mastromonaco - No matter your political views, it is fascinating to see what goes on behind the scenes working for a politician. The Author worked for Barack Obama for over a decade. She was the deputy Chief of Staff to Obama when he was President. The book is  supposed to have lots of never before told stories.

Good Luck with That by [Higgins, Kristan]

Good Luck with That by Kristan Higgins - Three women have been friends since they met in High School at weight loss camp. When one tragically passes away, the other two try to tackle their insecurities. I've heard this book deals with body image and self acceptance without being a self help book.

Beneath a Scarlet Sky: A Novel by [Sullivan, Mark]

Beneath a Scarlet Sky by Mark Sullivan - I've read countless novels and biographies from the WWII time period. This one is based on a true story and is going to be a television event soon. The protagonist becomes a double agent for the Allies after he is appointed the driver for one of the top Nazi commanders.

5 New Makeup Favorites

Lately I have been trying out some new makeup products. I have had a few misses but also found some great products that have become part of my normal makeup routine.

1. Nars Orgasm Blush - I've actually been using this for a year and mentioned it in this post but I love this blush too much not to share. The color is the perfect natural blush and really does look good on so many skin tones! This blush is so wearable that I'll use it even when I'm not putting much other makeup on.

2. Almay Shadow Squad -  I recently found these while walking thru the makeup aisles of Target. Each square is the same shade in 4 different finishes: matte, metallic, satin and glitter. The pigment is a good medium but still buildable. I love how easy it is to put a look together with the different textures.

3. Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder - This higlighter is the best! It goes on easily and I love to use it on my cheekbones, browbone and on my cupid's bow.

4. Bareminerals Rose Eyeshadow Palette - Generally, I'm not drawn to eyeshadow palettes because I find that I only like a few of the eyeshadows and the others are a waste. The colors in the rose palette have enough variety that you can put together several different looks but nothing is too far out there that I won't use it. I've found that the rosey shade named Boho is my favorite.

5. it Cosmetics CC Cream and Bye Bye Foundation - There are many days that I don't use foundation. I use a little concealer and call it good. On the days that I do need more coverage I've started using it Cosmetics. The first product I tried is the Bye Bye Foundation. It is full coverage but still so natural looking. I also love the feel and texture of it and it lasts all day. The CC cream is another great product and actually has skin care benefits in it as well. The best part is both products have spf 50 in them.

Paris in Green

If you’ve seen my instastory lately you may have notice I’m on a trip. Our first 24 hours was spent in Paris. While that is not nearly enough time to really see Paris, my friend and I had a great time seeing what we could and having a great French meal.

As soon as we got to our apartment, I was very excited to get out of my travel clothes. This top felt like the perfect piece to wear in Paris! Apart from the print, my favorite part of the top is the bow tie at the neckline. I kept the look simple with some skinny jeans and comfortable shoes. On trips with lots of walking, my footwear is the most important part of any outfit. Nothing can ruin a trip more than uncomfortable shoes!

This top is also great for a business casual environment as it goes well with jeans, slacks and skirts! It layers well too so you can add a jacket or cardigan when the weather cools off. I wore this outfit last week for brunch and just switched the flats for heels.
