Plane Beauty Routine

Traveling, in any form, can wreak havoc on your hair and skin. A flight can take a particularly big toll on everything. The dry, recycled plane air dries my skin out and even can cause me to break out. When I'm on longer flights, I have a few things that I like to do to counter the effects of the dry air.

Take off all Makeup - If I'm wearing makeup, I take all of it off immediately! You don't need anything clogging up your pores. Washing your face isn't a simple task on a plan so it may be a good idea to do it in the airport barthroom before you board. Or you can do what I do and use micelar water and a cottons swab. I use micelar water everyday to remove make up and wash my face. On a plane, you can use it without leaving your seat!

Apply an Eye Serum - The skin around your eyes is really delicate and can dry out even faster than the rest of your skin. The current serum I'm loving is this one from Tula. What I love most about it is the applicator. The metal tip is cool and it, along with the serum, helps with puffiness. It also just feels really good.

Oil Up - I have talked a few times about my love for this Vitamin C Serum/Oil. It is one of the few items I always take with me when I travel. Even when I'm wearing little or no makeup, this oil gives me a glow and because it is from Beauty Counter, I know it is a safe and clean product. So its not shocking that I immediately slather on a fair amount when on a plane. I apply it all over my face and on my neck and hands

Add Moisture - Moisture, Moisture, Moisture! Now I add a barrier to protect my skin and add moisture. The best thing to do this is a really moisturizing mask! The Colleen Rothschild Intense Hydrating mask is magic and really makes my skin glow. I like to put it on and keep it on the whole flight! Another reason this mask is great is that it doesn't look like you have a mask on, so you won't scare anyone on the plane with you! You don't have to wash it off either so I like to keep it on during the whole duration off the flight.

Do you have anything you do to help your skin survive a flight?

White after Labor Day

Some of my favorite outfits come together with basic pieces. I've said it before but neutral colors don't have to be boring. When you add interesting textures or shapes, you can still have a creative outfit.

I recently picked up this off the shoulder top. At first I was worried I wouldn't wear it much since I was buying it at the end of summer but I've already worn it several times. I also think it will get me thru fall by just adding a jean or leather jacket!

What I'm ready to wear this Fall

I'm one that always loves a change of season. There is something new and refreshing about a change in the weather. We've already had a few days of cooler weather that have gotten me in the mood for all things Fall. I love all season mainly because I love all the changes, especially in fashion. I don't think I could live anywhere that doesn't have all 4 seasons.

I've put together a list of some Fall looks I'm looking forward to the most.

Denim Jackets
There may be nothing that says Fall to me more than a denim jacket. It's best use is to put over some of your summer tops and dresses. I love how it can dress down an item and make it more casual.

Leather

I love leather in all forms: jackets, pants, skirts and tops. It can add edge to any outfit and is a basic at the same time. Some people may think they can't pull off some leather pieces but I think it is all about the styling!

Camel

Although camel really can be worn year round, it really makes me think of Fall! I love a look like this pic that is made up of all basics but is still interesting. I've been on the hunt for a camel skirt to add to my fall and winter wardrobe. I also would love a camel cashmere sweater.

Stadium Bags

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7

If you are a college or professional football fan you probably already know that the regulations for what types of purses you can take into a game have changed. More and more stadiums are requiring small, clear bags. Even if you aren't a sports fan, any type of events at the stadiums will have the same restrictions.

Luckily, many brands and companies are creating purses for just this purpose. I'm currently shopping for one and thought I'd put together the options I'm looking at. Most of these above come in several colors as well.

It's hard to pick my favorite but I'm trying to narrow it down. This black one has enough detail to make it special but would pair with almost any outfit. Leopard has always been a favorite of mine so I'm also drawn to this one.

Split, Croatia

Our second stop on our tour of Croatia was the coastal city of Split. We spent 2 days and 2 nights there which I felt like was a suitable amount of time.

Getting There
Split is the 2nd largest in Croatia, so you have several options to get there. For us, the easiest thing was to take a ferry ride from Dubrovnik to Split. It took around 4 hours on the ferry to get to Split. What I loved about the ride is how peaceful and scenic it was. There were 3 stops on the ride and when passengers were getting off and on we could go on the outside deck to see the views and get some fresh air.

Sites
Diocletian's Palace - Built in the 4th century, the palace was a retirement home for a Roman emperor. It looks more like a fortress than a palace and now contains shops, restaurants and homes inside its walls. It is in the center of Split and one of the must sees of the city.Within it are many important historical sites. I used Rick Steve's book to take a self guided tour of the Palace.

The Riva - This is a palm tree lined promenade between the Adriatic and Diocletian's palace. At the very least, take a stroll around the Riva during the late afternoon or evening. It comes alive with tourists and locals. There are plenty of places to have a drink or dinner and watch the sunset along the Adriatic.

The Bell Tower - Inside the palace the bell tower is a great place to get a view of the whole city. I didn't actually climb it but a couple of my friends did. They said it was a bit scary but worth it.

Beaches - If you want some time to sunbathe Split has plenty of beaches. Private or public they are all beautiful. Many of them have bars so you can sip a cocktail while you relax in the sun.

Stay

Like we did for most of our trip, we stayed in an Air BNB in Split. We rented an apartment that was actually within the walls of Diocletian's Palace. It was the best location for us and I would highly recommend staying in the same area. We were within a short walking distance to restaurants, sites and anything else you'd want to see.

Eat

Zinfandel - Within the palace walls, this wine bar is a must for dinner. They have a whole list of Croatian wines that we loved trying. Even though you're in Croatia they have great Italian food and nightly specials.

DC Travel Diary and a New Boutique

A few weekends ago I made a quick trip to Washington DC to see a few friends. I love visiting cities that I know someone who lives there. They have the best recommendations on what to do, eat etc. And in this case, I was able to stay with them so I got to see them more and my accommodations were free!

The rooftop of my friends' apartment has an incredible view of the city, including the capital building. I decided it was the best place to take a few pics of the romper I wore all day. Although I have several stores that I shop at on a consistent basis, I'm always looking for new places. I especially like to find smaller boutiques with items I can't find everywhere.   Babe Supply co is a new online shop that my cousin recently opened. The store has easy pieces that are great for after work or weekends and at such a good price point.

This romper, in particular, is one of my favorite pieces I bought from Babe Supply Co. The romper is sooo soft and the lace details make it special. I wore this on a long day of brunch, shopping and then dinner on the apartment rooftop. I'll be featuring more from this store on the blog soon. Check out their instagram too! (babesupplyco)

I have been to DC a couple times so on this trip I was able to focus on seeing my friends and didn't worry about needing to see all the monuments and museums and could just focus on seeing a couple things. My friends had to work the first day I was there so I spent some time the morning on my own. I walked to the capital with breakfast in hand, then slowly made my way along the national mall. I stopped to take a few pics and really enjoyed the morning.

I had an 11:30 ticket to the Holocaust museum (only during the summer months do you need a ticket). I new it would be emotional and sometimes hard, but I've been wanting to go to this museum for awhile. I highly recommend it to every single person. I could talk about it for hours! It is informative, touching and so impactful. One of the goals of the museum is education. Thru education we can hope to prevent anything like this every happening again. I didn't really take many pictures at the museum but did want to share these.
