On the Road Again

I left yesterday for a bachelorette party trip to Nashville! I love this city and am so excited to celebrate my future sister-in-law here! I have a lot of travel coming up this year, Travel day outfits can be difficult sometimes but I'm learning how to put them together. Layers are key! Planes can be cold or hot and you have little control over them. Many times your destination has completely different weather than home.

This outfit is a casual and comfortable but still feels put together! Unless I'm going somewhere really warm, I almost always travel in leggings or pixie pants. Here I'm wearing workout some new workout leggings from Spanx. I love the highwaist and the control they have. They feel thin so I was initially worried they would be see thru but they are not!!

The thin hoodie I'm wearing is from one of my favorite local stores, lush! It's the perfect layering piece to go under my jean jacket. I finished off the outfit with my new tennis shoes, that make me feel like I'm walking on clouds!

What do you like to wear when you travel?

Black Dress for all Occasions

Not much to be said on why the Little Black Dress (LBD) is a classic! An LBD can be one of the most versatile items in your closet. Change up the accessories and the whole look has changed.

I've gotten so much use out of a LBD that I've invested in a few of them. I've shared this dress before and it has gotten me thru many parties. At first, I didn't know if this midi length dress would be as versatile but I've found that I actually wear it more than my others. The length makes it great for luncheons, showers and other similar events. With a sassier shoe and jewelry the midi length can even be cocktail or wedding appropriate!

The look I put together here was what I wore to one of my best friend's bridal luncheon. These bow pumps have become a new favorite of mine! When I was looking thru the pictures I realized this would be a great look for a Valentine's date!  Your favorite clutch would take it from day to night!

The dress I'm wearing is old but I've found several great options here, here, here and here! This one is very similar to the one I'm wearing!

Engagement Gift Ideas

From Thanksgiving to Valentine's is considered engagement season! Many of my friends and even my parents (once upon a time) got engaged during this time. Two of my closest friends just got engaged and I've had the best time celebrating them! A celebratory brunch or dinner with a yummy cocktail is the best way to hear the proposal story!

I always like to get the new bride to be a little gift to celebrate this special time in her life! I've put together some of my favorite ideas.

To celebrate her new initials I love monogrammed items. A May Designs notebook can be customized so many different ways! I love bubbly to celebrate everything and an engagement is no exception. Pair some champagne with these glasses for a perfect gift!

If your friend will be showcasing some new bling, she will want to keep up her manicures! These polishes are great for an at home mani or get a gift certificate for a manicure at your favorite nail salon. These jewelry wipes will keep the new ring shining.

One other item I loved giving is personalized thank you notes. The newly engaged will be getting lots of gifts and have lots of thank yous to write. Visit a local stationery shop and pick out some cards for her. You can do a monogram or one I love is putting "The Future Mrs." on there. You can order several sets and have some handy for the next time a friend gets engaged!

If you need more ideas, Kate Spade has a ton of fun items!

Winter Skincare Update

I've shared many times before how I think a good skincare routine is important. Taking care of my skin is a priority and I always feel much better when it is in good shape. I originally shared my skin care routine in this post here. Overall this routine is still what I do everyday but the harsh Winter weather has required a few changes.

BareMinerals Skinlongevity Vital Power Infusion - I've been looking for a face oil or serum to add to my skincare routine. This feels like a hybrid of both. I layer on this serum after I wash my face. I use it every morning and some nights. The serum soaks into your skin quickly and feels great! After a few days my skin looks healthier and has a great glow. I also feel like my makeup goes on better and looks better as well!

Mario Badescu Caviar Night Cream - Some days no matter what I do my skin is super dry! This time of year it is something that can't be helped. The caviar night cream is so thick and moisturizing I only use it every 2 or 3 nights. After I have washed my face, applied the serum above and my eye cream I put a thin layer of this night cream. A little truly goes a long way. Nothing has gotten rid of dry patches on my face better than this cream and it is at a really affordable price!

Favorite Beauty Buys of 2016

I have definitely bought and tried my fair share of beauty products! It is fun to try something new. Sometimes that pays off and I fall in love with a new product but many times products don't live up to the hype. I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite beauty purchases over the past year. These are the things that exceeded my expectations and I will or have purchased them over and over!

Hoola Bronzer - I didn't think I could wear bronzer until I found this one. It is the one bronzer that everyone can wear. They key to it's accessibility is that it is matte and buildable. The lack of shimmer makes it wearable for every day. The color is the perfect mix of bronze without being even close to orange. It gives my pale skin the little bit of color it needs but would also work for complexions with more color than me.

Bad Gal Lash - I've tried more mascaras than I can count. I've found a couple more expensive ones that I love but I just can't get myself to pay that price. This mascara is in the middle price range and more than worth every penny. For me, it creates dark thick longer lashes. On my minimal make up days I swipe on a bit of this mascara and my eyes pop!
Rusk Texture Spray - I don't use many hair products besides dry shampoo. This texture spray is the exception. I spray it on before and after curling my hair to give it that messy texture. It's equally great for straight hair as well. The best part is that it doesn't weigh hair down and it's still touchable.

Enzyme Revitalizing Mask - The more I focus on skin care the more I believe masks are important. I've tried many before but always come back to this one. After 15-20 minutes my skin is firmer, softer and glowing. It's become part of my routine before events are special nights out.

Naked Smoky Palette - The naked palettes are nothing new but I just recently became an owner of one. This was given to me as a Christmas gift and it was an immediate favorite. I don't wear a lot eye shadow on a regular basis but the pretty shades in this palette have tempted me to step out of my comfort zone. Not only are the colors perfect for a dramatic smoky eye but many of them have daytime wearability as well.

What are some of your favorite 2016 beauty purchases?

Apres Ski Look

How is everyone's new year going so far? I love the feeling of a clean slate that the new year gives me. Now that I'm thru the holidays, winter seems like it is really here! We had our first big snow a few days ago and it had me so excited! It also made me think about my favorite type of vacation, ski trips! I decided to put together some apres ski outfit inspiration!

I always find that I never have enough room when I pack for a ski trip. What I've found helps is to pick a color scheme so you can rewear pieces through the trip. This sweater here was my inspiration for the color scheme. My formula for these apres ski looks is a skinny pant, cozy sweater, beanie and boots. This combination can be done in a thousand different ways.

Pixie pants are truly a versatile piece for Fall and Winter. They go dressy or casual and thus are always in my suitcase when I travel the time of year.

In my opinion the correct footwear are a crucial purchase. I have a pair of Sorel boots that keep my feet toasty warm. These boots are a shorter version and the all black will go with all of your looks. Hunter rain boots are an investment. To add to their versatility you can add these boot socks and then they are warm enough for even the snowiest days!

If you want more colorful sweater options I love this one and this one
