What to Wear: The Bride

As a bride, you have a lot of things to handle. Wedding planning can be a full time job itself! Before you even get to the wedding there are several other events. I've put together two outfits for the bride to get her thru her Wedding Shower and Engagement Party!
A white dress may seem like the obvious choice for a wedding shower, but the details on this one keep it fresh. The tortoise earrings and bracelet complete the lace without taking too much attention from it. Fit and flare dresses look great on a variety of body types, especially if you are someone that wants to disguise your hips or thighs.

If you want a dress with a bit more drama, this maxi is pretty incredible! I also love this white shirt dress for a more classic look. You could add some colorful heels for a pop of color.

Engagement parties can be a time to have more fun with your outfit! A jumpsuit creates a spin on the classic white look. If you've seen this post you know I'm in love with tassels, especially on earrings. For this look, I love the drama they add. You could add color to the outfit but I like keeping most things neutral with these pumps and bracelet. To complete the look, I would add a swipe of bright lipstick

This jumpsuit is a bit more daring but still appropriate for the bride.

Denim Dress

For my third birthday I had a very specific birthday list. I wanted several dolls including Minnie Mouse but the number one item I kept asking for was a jean dress! I was absolutely set on the fact that my 3 year old self needed a jean dress and talked about it all the time. Early on the morning of my birthday, my parents woke me up before my dad went to work. Our tradition was that I got to open one present in the morning and sure enough it was my birthday jean dress. We have home video proof that I am absolutely ecstatic! My acid wash jean dress was covered in ruffles and the epitome of 1990 fashion!

My love for denim dresses hasn't waivered much since I was 3, and I've had many of them thru the years. They are a versatile staple piece for almost any wardrobe. I've styled mine here for a day of errands. Keeping it simple, I threw on my favorite keds and a crossbody purse to get myself out the door.

I've had this dress for a few years. In the colder months I love to wear it with tights and my favorite booties. A denim dress can truly be as versatile as you want it to be. Since mine isn't available anymore I have some of my favorites below. There is a denim dress for ever body shape and at every price point!

Gift Guide: Mother's Day

Mothers are pretty amazing! They seem to be able to do everything at all times. I'm also convinced that Moms have the power to find anything! We all know some pretty amazing Moms in our lives that deserve some special attention. Mother's Day is May 8th!

Instead of just buying flowers for your Mom, put them in a vase like this. Then when the flowers die, she still has a gift to remember the sentiment. Another great home gift is this tray or this coffee table book.

For a Mom that loves accessories or fashion there are so many options, it is almost overwhelming. These earrings come in so many colors that you can something for every Mom. This necklace comes in gold, silver, gunmetal and rose gold! For a trendier piece, I love these tassel earrings!

As the weather is warming up, everyone is spending more and more time outdoors. These poofs add some style and extra seating to any outdoor space. For another outdoor related gift, buy a large outdoor pot and plant some flowers or you can offer to help plant flowers with your mom. It's not only a gift but a great way to spend time with your mom. I was recently given a potted hydrangea and it was one of the best gifts because it lasts way longer than an arrangement.

My favorite gift to give is something the person may not buy themselves. Gift certificates for facials, massages, manicures and pedicures provide some much needed pampering. A new fragrance can also be indulgent, and Jo Malone fragrances have recently become some of my favorite.

If your mom is your favorite chef, she may want a new kitchen gadget. This panini press will take her sandwiches to the next level! Or you can get her some new serving dishes like these

I hope this list inspired you to find the perfect gift for the Mom in your life!

Travel Outfit

If you follow me on instagram (EverydayK_), you probably saw when I tried this jacket on at Anthropologie. I had been eyeing it for awhile and had to have it once it went on sale. The suede is super soft and lightweight. The grey color is a great alternative to black. I haven't stopped wearing it since I bought this jacket last week.

This time of year typically is the kickoff to lots of traveling. Everyone books summer vacations, girls' trips and bachelorette parties for the next few months. Anytime I travel I like to be comfortable and stylish. It's sometimes hard to find that line where I am comfy enough to curl up in  my seat in a plane but not look like I'm in pajamas. Luckily the athleisure trend is so popular!

I am not typically someone that likes to wear tennis shoes outside of the gym. Most of the time I would rather wear flats or maybe some keds if I'm trying to be comfortable. I also was deterred by the fact that I didn't think I could pull it off.  I decided to finally give in and style a non-work out outfit. Of course my tennis shoes have to be a little different and have leopard print on them.

Pixie pants or work out pants are interchangeable with this look. To mix it up a bit I added my favorite long sleeve t-shirt and this new jacket. This look works for almost any travel trip. It would be incredibly comfortable for a road trip or a flight. Unless you are off to a tropical location you could wear this outfit for most destinations.

What is your go to travel outfit?

Under $100: Dresses for Weddings

As I've said before wedding season is in full swing. Whether you have one or two coming up or your social calendar is completely full, you may be looking for a few new dresses. During this season, I always like to look ahead and see how many outfits or dresses I may need. Adding a few to your collection is a quick way to refresh your wardrobe. I've pulled together a variety and all are under $100! They will not break the bank and maybe you can afford an extra one (I won't tell)!

I love lace and think its so romantic and perfectly wedding appropriate. The silhouette on this dress is incredibly ladylike. Add nude heels and your favorite earrings and you are ready. The sheer middle on this one, adds an unexpected element. This striped dress and off the shoulder dress have flowing skirts and are ready for you to hit the dance floor.

If you need something versatile, this shift dress is calling your name and comes in 10 colors. You can dress it up or down depending on your accessories. For a dressier wedding add a statement necklace and your nicest heels. For a more casual event, like an outdoor wedding, wedges and a tassel necklace (like this one) will have you looking perfect.

Saddle Bag

I'm always in the mood to shop for a purse! My favorite shape for the season is the saddle bag. This versatile bag is smaller but big enough to carry all of your essentials. The crossbody shape always makes it an easy bag to throw on and go. Most crossbody bags are on the more casual side. Saddle bags tend to be a bit dressier and thus more versatile. Spring and Summer are usually times with a lot of travel. The size of the saddle bag would make it perfect for all of your vacations.

This white tassel saddle bag is my favorite! It pairs equally well with cutoffs and floral dresses. The other white ones like this one and this one are great too. This camel one is a great price!

Spring is a great time to wear bright colors. Mint is always one of my favorite Spring colors and this purse is the perfect shade of it. Nothing says happy and fun like a yellow saddle bag. If you can't decide what color, this confetti saddle bag is a great statement.

Saks is currently having a big sale which means this one, this one and this one are 30% off right now.

Latest Obsession: Lounge Bra

A few months ago I went bra shopping. When I was picking some to try on, I grabbed this lounge bra because the bright colors caught my eye. I didn't know exactly what kind of bra it was but I went for it anyways. Once it was on I never wanted to take it off!

The super soft lounge bra has demi cups and an underwire that you don't feel (I swear). This gives you a bit of a lift without having any padding. The longer band on the botttom is super comfortable and also helps give a lift. The racerback straps and fabric are smooth and really comfortable.

The lounge bra is a hybrid between a tshirt bra and a sports bra. If your sports bras are anything like mine, they provide alot of support for major activities but aren't the most comfortable when you aren't running or working out. Bralettes are really cute and comfortable but if you are a C cup or above, they don't provide enough lift. The lounge bra is as comfortable as the bralettes but creates a shape that you will love. Any days that you are lounging around or just want to be comfortable, this should be your go to! The lounge bra goes just as well under tshirts as it does other blouses. The colors are so fun that you may want it to peek out under your favorite tank top or vneck!

Anthropologie Sale

In the world of Anthropologie, it doesn't get much better than 40% off the sale price! This is the time to pick up some great deals. If there is anything that has been out of your price range, now it will be as low as it will probably ever get. I have been eyeing a few things online and think now is the time to click purchase.

Spring temperatures are all over the place and it's nice to have a go to jacket to add when it cools down. The grey color of this vegan suede jacket would pair well with all of your Spring pastels! Mix it with some of your girliest items, like this floral skirt

If you are in need of some basics, this sweatshirt, this open cardigan and this chambray button down are classics. They will be in your wardrobe forever.  Have a special event coming up? This black sheath dress is stunning and so unique. The mixture of fabrics and textures make it truly look one of a kind.

The Anthropologie accessories section is another place you will want to check out! A floral crossbody is a great purse for casual weekends. I love mixing up how I style my hair, but it is harder to do when its shorter. This turban headband and triangle hair clip are simple ways to change up my look.

Save and Splurge: Stripes with Florals

After cleaning out my closet last weekend (here is how) and organizing it (here) I realized how many striped shirts I have. I seem to have every color combination and sleeve length. Then I found these two ruffled versions here and here and saw a hole in my wardrobe! I was so excited to find the ruffled sleeved shirt at two price points. The ruffle sleeves add an extra detail to a wardrobe staple.

The look on the left is the look for less. In these two looks I paired the stripes with my second favorite print, floral. The two prints make a statement together but are classic at the same time. A simple strappy heel completes the look! These heels are a staple for a Spring and Summer wardrobe. You can wear them with everything!!  This look would be perfect for a shower, luncheon, church or even a more casual wedding!

Thees striped tops could be dressed down with jeans and a flat. They would also look great with a bright colored shorts and your favorite wedges! A striped tshirt will always be a yes in my wardrobe. I don't think you can have enough!

What do you wear with your striped shirts?

Closet Organization

I know some of the Midwest and Northeast areas have seen snow in the last few days. Here in Oklahoma it has been Spring temperatures all week and I think it is safe to say that it is here to stay. Spring time always feels fresh and new. I feel reinvigorated to clean and organize my space. The first place I always start is my closet! When my closet is organized, I feel so much better and picking out an outfit each day is easier.

My first step to organizing is to go thru everything and get rid of what I don't need, wear or is in bad shape. I follow the guidelines listed here to decide what to get rid of. Once I have paired down everything, I then start organizing what I have left. I, like most people, do not have the size of closet that we would all like. I've learned to take advantage all the available space I have. I've put together my best tips below to get your closet in tip top shape!

  • Don't let out of season clothes take up valuable space. I keep out of season clothes, shoes and accessories in these under the bed clear tubs. Every Spring and Fall I trade out sweaters, boots and leggings for sandals, shorts and sundresses. It may seem like a bit of work but when your closet only has seasonal items, you'll have more room and it will be better organized.
  • These velvet hangers are a lifesaver! A few years ago I changed out all my plastic hangers for these and it is a game changer. The velvet material keeps things in place. Thin straps and silky fabrics won't fall off these hangers and litter the bottom of your closet. They are also super thin so your closet will have more space.
  • For sweaters, shoes and other bulky items, this hanging organizer is a great use of space. Sweaters are bulky on hangers and the hanger can damage their shape. Folding them and keeping them in the hanging shelves is a better use of space.
  • If you have dress or long hanging space in your closet you probably have some dead space under your dresses. To make the best use of that I put clear plastic drawers on the floor. You can stack these and put as many as your space will allow. I like these or these based on how much space you have.
How do you keep your closet organized?

White Jeans year Round

I don't believe in most of the fashion rules, especially the one that says you can only wear white after Labor day. White, even white denim, should be worn all year round. An all white look in the middle of winter can be incredibly chic.

I've been savoring the wonderful Spring days we have had here in Oklahoma. In my book the sun shine and nice temperatures mean I need to spend as much time outside as possible. Lately that has meant having drinks on some restaurant patios with friends and coworkers.

The weather also has me excited for new Spring tops. I picked this peplum tank from Old Navy just the other day. I love how perfect the colors pop against my white jeans. As the weather warms up, I find myself gravitating towards brighter colors. The peplum silhouette is a fun spin on your average tank and keeps it feeling fresh. I love the "uniform" of skinny jeans, spring top and heeled sandal. It is a winning combination that you can change up a thousand different ways.

When the full heat of Summer is here this tank will go with denim shorts. Cutoffs and flat sandals will make for an easy Summer look.

Shopbop Sale

I'm bringing you my Wednesday post a day early because the Shopbop Friends and Family Sale starts today! It is 25% off sitewide and this only happens a few times a year. This sale is a great time to buy something you have had your eyes on or splurge on something you wouldn't normally get. Here are some of my current favorite pieces.

If you are looking for some new summer sandals, these flat pom sandals make a statement. I also love these rainbow block heels and these tassel sandals (previously seen here).

I have become obsessed with off the shoulder items (last seen here). I know I'll be wearing then all thru the Spring and Summer. Off the shoulder can be dressy or casual. This top's bright colors are just asking to be worn on your next date night! This dress would be great with your favorite flat sandal for a more casual date or day at the beach.

Spring and Summer are synonymous with dresses. This midi dress has some sex appeal with the addition of a cut out. If you are looking for a new maxi, this colorful dress belongs in your closet and the embroidery on this dress is so special!

Must Have: Beauty Blender

If you use liquid foundation, concealer or highlighter you must keep reading! What if I told you a $20 product will make your makeup look better no matter if it is drugstore or high end? Sounds pretty great, right?!

I have recently added a Beauty Blender to my makeup brush collection. After one use, I am a convert! I use it to apply my foundation, concealer, highlighter and cream brush. Any liquid or cream foundation looks flawless and streak free on your face. The product glides on your skin. The Beauty Blender creates the most natural look I've seen compared to any other makeup brush I've used. Concealers and highlighters blend even better with the Beauty Blender. Whether it is covering a zit, red marks or undereye circles you can get an airbrushed look.

You don't have to make a big change in your makeup routine to use the Beauty Blender
  1. You start by wetting the sponge and then squeezing out any excess water.
  2. For Foundation: pump the product onto the back of your hand.
  3. Take a small amount of the product and start tapping it onto your skin. You don't want to swipe or rub the sponge. Tapping keeps the product on the skin and creates the flawless look.
  4. Work over your face the same way in which you use any other makeup brush.
  5. Concealer (like this one): apply directly onto your face on the areas you need it.
  6. Using the tapping motion, blend the concealer onto the problem area.
  7. Finish with translucent powder (like the one here).
You can clean your Beauty Blender with soap and water or this specially formulated solid cleanser.

Wrap Dress

Waking up to rain and cooler temperatures is not exactly what I was hoping for on Easter morning. It made me rethink what I was going to wear to mass with my family.  A short sleeved or sleeveless dress wasn't going to cut it! Among my long sleeved dresses is one of my favorites dresses ever, my DVF wrap dress.

Diane Von Furstenberg introduced the jersey wrap dress in the 1970's and it has been a classic ever since. Each season she creates her wrap dress in new fabrics and patterns. These dresses can be a bit of a splurge but will last a lifetime. The classic wrap style will never go out of style. I found my wrap dress on sale last fall and this onethis one, and this one are on sale now! If you want a less expensive version, I love this one, this one and this one.

Wrap dresses are perfect for so many situations! A wrap dress is perfect for a business casual environment, just add pumps and you are ready for work. You can even layer over a blazer to dress it up further. All the showers that seem to come up this time of year are other great times to wear a wrap dress.

Wrap dresses are also flattering on every body type. If you have curves (like I do) the jersey fabric and wrap shape will skim over and flatter them. For those that are lacking in the curve department, you are in luck too. The tie accentuates your waist and will create some curves.

Some other great wrap dresses are here, here, here and here
