Summer Days

The warm weather here does not let me forget that Summer is here. It's time to keep outfits simple and cool, especially if you are spending any time outdoors! This weekend I wore this outfit at an outdoor event. My main goal was to stay comfortable and still look fashionable.

The vibrant colors of this top are what draw me to it. Trying it on, I realized the tiered layers kept it away from the body and will keep me cool during the hot Oklahoma summers!  The bonus is that it's on sale!! I kept everything else simple with navy shorts and orange clutch

I love Fireworks! I love barbecuing! I love having a drink with my friends and and family! It is easy to see that I love the Fourth of July! Two very special people in my life (my grandma and one of my aunts) share their birthdays with our nation!  This Fourth of July will start out with my grandma's 90th birthday party and will probably end with shooting off fireworks at my aunt and uncle's house!

At family events I'm typically playing with my baby cousins so I like to keep my look casual and comfortable.  I have pulled two boards together. The first one has a more casual laid back feel. I love these striped shorts with your favorite white tank and sandals! I'm not quite sure what I'm wearing but I'm leaning towards a casual dress like this one and keds or espadrilles. I love pairing dresses with tennis shoes!

The second board has slightly dressier options. I love the subtle star pattern on this dress and it's on sale!  This tunic dress is perfect for summer!! I'm detail on the embroidery is so pretty.  I've already shared my obsession with off the shoulder looks (here) and this combines that with my love of rompers!! Win win!!

What are you planning for the fourth?

Pineapple Print

I hope everyone had a great Father's Day! I spent the first official day of summer hanging out at my dad's house, we enjoyed the day and cooked a delicious dinner! For a fun, casual day I pulled out another romper! I've had this pineapple print romper for years and love how comfy and easy this one is!

This year I've seen pineapple print everywhere! If you aren't lucky enough to be on a tropical vacation, bring the tropics to you with this print. It is the perfect print for summer. My romper is old but I love this one and this one too!! A print dress is great for a casual summer day. These pineapple print keds will add a little pep in your step and these Kate Spade earrings are a subtle take on the trend.

Striped Romper

This outfit is a bit deceiving, it looks like a dress but is actually a romper! This outfit combines two of my favorite things, stripes and rompers! Like dresses, Rompers are easy to wear because they are a whole outfit in one piece. You don't have to think when putting together an outfit, all the work is done for you.

I recently wore this romper to a friend's baby shower. I just added some simple jewelry and wedges to dress up the piece. By changing into flats or sandals, you could dress down this piece too. With a fun statement necklace, it would be perfect for date night too!!

Statement Pieces: Tassel Jewelry

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9

I started this post thinking I would pull together some of my favorite of the moment statement jewelry pieces. After I had picked 3 or 4 I realized everything I was drawn to had a tassel. So this post evolved into my favorite tassel jewelry pieces. I think tassels are having a big moment right now. My obsession started with shoes (seen here and here) and now I'm loving tassels on everything. I think they add a fun vibe to an outfit.

I love this collection of stackable bracelets, they will look great worn together or separate. This bright necklace would pop and look perfect on a white top! I'm currently on the wait list for these earrings, they have two amazing color combinations. I love mixing hard and soft and these leather earrings are the perfect combo. A fellow blogger of mine, What Would V Wear, makes some pretty custom jewelry and I love the tassel bracelets she put together.

Pink Shift Dress

Some days I have plenty of time to take tons of outfit photos, I can find the perfect lighting and end up with lots of options to choose from. Other days I have a few moments while my brother impatiently waits in the car. I'll let you guess which scenario these pictures came from!

My favorite statement heels, last seen here, are back!! Instead of letting them do all the talking I put them with an equally bright pink shift dress. This one is special with the cut out and bow detail in the back. Shift dresses are an easy silhouette to wear. One tip for styling them is to wear a long necklace. The long necklace pulls the eye in and helps make the dress look a little less boxy.

I have found myself braiding my bangs quite a bit. It's a great way to add more interest to a hairstyle and it also is perfect to disguise bangs you may be growing out. I'm currently working on a tutorial, stay tuned!

A Personal Post- Lipstick and Laces

I've had hesitations about sharing the following post. Everyday K is a personal style blog, and although the following isn’t style related, it is very personal. I decided that in sharing my story I can let you get to know me a little more and potentially work together to turn what will begin as a devastating story into a beautiful ending.

In 2007, my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. She was a loving, active and healthy woman. Being that she had never smoked, hearing this diagnosis was a shock to all of our family and friends. Numerous treatments were attempted and countless prayers were said. I have never seen anyone battle as hard all while keeping up great spirits and an unshakeable faith during an incredibly dark time. Soon after her 50th birthday, my mom lost her (nearly) three year battle.

From the day she was diagnosed, I looked for a way to get involved in finding the cure for lung cancer! Last September, as I did another random Google search on lung cancer advocacy, I came across the organization Free to Breathe. Immediately, I loved the mission and vision of this organization, and knew I wanted to get involved. Their major fundraising sources are 5k runs they host across the country. As luck would have it, the first annual run in Oklahoma City was in November.

In reading through their website, I felt compelled to put a race team together and talked to all of my family and friends about my desire to make a difference. One of my best friends came up with a team name, Lipstick and Laces (thanks Taylor). As I’ve mentioned before, I get my obsession with lipstick from my mother and I couldn’t imagine a better name for something that honors her! The team was quickly put together, a team t-shirt was designed (we had to run in style) and fundraising began.

The hardest part for me was knowing that an actual 5k was lurking in the near future. Running is not a requirement of the 5k and there is also a 1 mile walk option. However, if I was going to lead this team, I really wanted to run the entire 5k in honor of my mom. A 5k may not be much to many people but for someone that has never been a runner, it might as well have been a marathon! I started training immediately and in full disclosure, it was not fun!! I can remember texting my friends many times about losing motivation. They helped me immensely during training and during the actual 5k! I could not have completed the run without them.

Race day came and I was ready to honor my mom! I was proud of the large team that had been put together and the money that we raised in such a short amount of time. I was not ready for how emotional the day would be for me. Seeing the outpouring of love and support almost brought me to tears. I think I can speak for my friends and family and say that the day was healing for all of us, especially my dad, brother and me. We felt that we had made a difference in battling something that had taken someone so important from us! It was truly an amazing experience.

After being a team captain last year, I knew I wanted to become more involved this year. I am now on the committee for the 2ndannual Free to Breathe 5k in Oklahoma City. The run is November 1stand I know this year’s event is going to be an even greater experience. I have officially formed my team for this year!! Lipstick and Laces is ready to go and has a pretty lofty fundraising goal!

If this cause is something that you want to get involved with or want more information, check out Free to Breathe here. If you want to join our team and start fundraising, or just want to make a donation, the Lipstick and Laces team page is here. Every little bit makes a big difference! If this isn't the cause for you, I encourage you to find something that inspires you as much as this does me.

Thank you for reading! This post is very personal for me and I truly appreciate all of my readers!

Casual Summer

I'm going casual today! I picked up this Anthropologie pullover as a great layering piece. Although it's long sleeved, the breezy sheer fabric keeps it feeling light. One of my go to looks is pairing long sleeves with shorts.

One of the best summer shoes is the espadrille! I definitely recommend getting a pair. I was debating between Tory Burch pair and this pairThey will be the first thing I pack for upcoming vacations. Espadrilles are a great shoe for sightseeing! They can be paired with about anything. You will be seeing this pair on here all summer! I also love this pair, this pair and this pair.

Colorful Stripes

Sometimes Mondays are hard! To get me thru it I want to go back to the beginning of the weekend.  I wore this as a casual Friday look. White jeans and a colorful tee, it doesn't get easier than that. This Anthropologie top is so soft and comfortableThe silk, striped sleeves and back elevate a basic tee and make it special. I love how you get a hint of the stripes from the front. It is one of those throw on and go pieces. You can take the tee into the weekend by changing into shorts and sandals!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Custom Dress

Finding the right fit for clothes can be hard to do. Sometimes you are in between sizes and neither fit well. Other times you wish you could shorten or lengthen the hem or sleeve. Sometimes a few simple changes would make a piece of clothing perfect!

I was recently contacted by eShakti to check out their site and order a piece. It isn't your typical shopping site. You can pick an item and when you order you can customize and make changes. Most pieces can have altered necklines, sleeves and lengths. You can also enter in your measurements for even more customization. The process takes a bit of time but this dress fits me like a glove! I picked out this dress for work and while customizing the dress I kept the neckline and length conservative. The quality and fit of the fabric is great for the price. Because the pieces are custom it takes awhile for shipment, take that into consideration when ordering.

Matching Sets

 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9

Matching sets are a trend I have been dying to try! I think they are great pieces that can be worn together and make great separates. This season the options are endless. You can find matching sets in shorts, skirts, crop tops, full tops etc.  If you are weary of this trend, the key is to find the right shapes and cuts for your body.  You can stay close to your own style aesthetic while still embracing the matching set trend.

This lace crop top and shorts is a great look that can be dressed up for a fun summer event.  The ladylike peach top and skirt can be worn together to work and then the crop top would look great with shorts on the weekends. I love the pom pom trim on this white set and the black and white print set. If you are looking to splurge, this Alice & Olivia set is gorgeous. My absolute favorite is the floral and check skirt set from MinkPink. This is on my wishlist!

I recently purchased this striped crop top to wear with high waisted shorts and skirts. I think I may need to pick up the matching shorts to complete the set!

All it takes is a quick google search on Taylor Swift to see that she loves matching sets too! She was one of the first to embrace this trend and has made it really mainstream. Her recent date night outfit (pic on the left) is affordable too. She wears matching sets both casual and dressed up.
