Lilly Pullitzer for Target

Mark your calendars for April 19th, the day the Lilly Pullitzer for Target collaboration debuts.  Last week the entire 120+ item collection became available for preview on Target's website.  Target has done quite a few of these collaborations and many have been huge successes!  Lilly Pullitzer is no exception, you will not be disappointed.  They even did a plus size collection and a girls' collection. The collection is full of the vibrant colors and patterns that you expect from Lilly Pullitzer but the price points are very Target.  Below are my favorite pieces from the collection.

I love that most pieces come in several prints!  The collection has lots of breezy maxis and easy summer dresses.  The white kimono looks as cute with cutoffs as it does as a coverup for the high waisted bikini.  The classic palm print is modernized with ponte knit fabric and a crop cut.  A great piece to add to your summer wardrobe.  I would love to put it with a high waisted skirt or shorts!

One of my absolute favorite pieces is the espadrilles!  The gold capped toe is right on trend and the perfect weekend shoe.  If you are like me and love something that will save a bad hair day, then look no further than the turban headband.  You can dress up a cute ponytail or tame your air dried hair with it.

I didn't expect the collection to have home pieces but I was pleasantly surprised!  The lounge chair is a great way to add a pop of color to a patio or backyard.  I love the coffee cups, especially when they come with their own holder!  What a great way for you to get 4 of the great prints from the collection.
Make sure you check out the Lilly Pullitzer for Target collection online and get ready to shop on April 19th! I know I will be getting to Target when it opens that day! What are your favorite pieces?

A Little Update: Bedroom

Over the last few months I have been redecorating my room. The silver/grey walls have been covered with a crisp clean white paint and my dark bedding is now white too.  If possible I like to reuse things when I redecorate and that is where spray paint comes in handy!! A little paint can completely transform something to fit into your new décor.

1 - 2

The gold dipped trend inspired my first spray paint project.   I took inspiration from the pictures above and decided to paint my desk. After lightly sanding my desk, I sprayed three coats of light pink spray paint. I waited 48 hours before taping off the legs and spraying the bottom gold.  Once it had completely dried, I used a wax sealer and then let it set for a few days.  I'm still searching for the perfect handles!

My second project was a little simpler.  Five or six thin coats of black spray paint completely changed the look of my bedside lamps.  Once the paint was dry I added some trim to the lampshades to complete the look.  I don't keep the lamps on for extended periods of time, so a glue gun was sufficient to use to attach the ribbon.  If I used the lamps more, I would be afraid the hot glue would melt.

Wedding Blues

It is that time of year again- Wedding Season!! If your calendar looks anything like mine, you have a few weddings and showers over the next few months.   I  use these events as an excuse to add a few new dresses to my wardrobe. On my hunt, I found this great dress on asos.   I like sites that have a wide variety of looks and asos has tons of options, in a variety of price ranges! I love this dress and this dress too!

When I saw the tulip skirt and blurred animal print, I knew I had to have this dress.   A tulip shaped skirt is flattering on most body types.  It is fitted and shows off your shape without being tight.  Although the print on this dress is quite bold, I still added a statement necklace.  I wanted something that would add edge to the softness of the dress.  This Stella & Dot necklace is so fun too, it can be worn long or short!

Window Pane Print

Sometimes something comes along and I just can't get it out of my head.  I obsess over it until I have had my fix. In this case its the windowpane print!  It has been popular for a few seasons but I never seem to find the right piece to add to my wardrobe.  Leave it to loft to create the perfect flirty yet still work appropriate skirt!  Earlier this month I featured the skirt in this post and I just recently made the purchase. I have already worn it twice, to a baby shower and to work.  My go to way to style the windowpane print is with a solid colored top in a bold color!

On a whim I picked up this tote bag at Target. It is similar to the one from this post (which my roommate picked up and loves)!  I've been using it for days when I have tons of things to tote around with me, including my laptop. It even has a separate zipper compartment to carry flats! I also love this one!

How to Love Every Salon Visit

How Elle Woods in Legally Blonde felt about manicures is how I feel about a visit to the salon.  Whether I am just getting a trim or completely changing my hair color, I love how I look and feel when I leave.  Over the last 7 years I have been a blonde, brunette and a red head.  I've changed my color based on my mood, boredom and curiosity.  I have loved most of the changes and that is because of my hairstylist.

I have recently talked to a few people after having a bad experience with their hairstylist.  They had a range of issues.  A few did not get what they thought they were asking for and some said they couldn't recreate what their hair looked like after leaving the salon.

At my last hair appointment I spoke with my hairdresser.  I combined her advice with my experiences to come up with a list of tips to have a great experience at the salon.
  • Pictures, pictures, pictures-  The best way to communicate what you want is thru pictures.  Bring several pictures with what you do and do not want.  The stylist will see what you gravitate towards and what shapes, colors etc. you like.  Pictures of what you don't want can be just as helpful.  My stylist suggested making a pinterst board and going thru that at your next appointment.
  • Know your commitment level - Communicating your hair commitment to your stylist is crucial.  How much time will you spend each day?  Do you typically blow out your hair or let it air dry? How often are you willing to go back to the salon?  Can you afford the salon visits required to maintain the style?  Let your hairdresser know your commitment so they can decide if you what you want will work.  A drastic change from your natural hair color will require more frequent visits than adding subtle highlights.  Also, certain hairstyles will take more time to style and require more maintenance than others.
  • Be Realistic -  Be ready for you stylist to tell you that you can't have exactly what is in a picture.  They have to work with your specific hair texture and thickness.  Also, certain colors may not look good on you. In terms of hair color, I typically tell my stylist what color I want but then ask her to do the version that looks best on me.
I hope these tips will help you have a better experience at your next salon visit!

Black, White and Shades of Grey Shirtdress

I love pieces that are easy, comfortable and stylish. The ones that take little effort and you can throw on anytime and feel amazing.  A shirtdress easily fits this description. I recently picked up this new one from Loft's Lou & Grey line.   The collection's pieces are very effortless and so comfortable.   I wish you could feel how unbelievably soft it is!  I have been eyeing this one too!! I threw it on with my favorite boots for work and since it has warmed up I could nix the tights.  I can easily go from work to drinks or a date with this outfit.  I love the versatility!

    Beauty Rx: L'oreal Cream Blush

On my Mother's Birthday I thought it would be appropriate to talk about one of her favorite beauty products, blush.  It was one of the first makeup products she let me wear and it is still one of my favorites too.  It instantly adds life to your face and creates a beautiful glow.  With the right color, blush is something that everyone can benefit from wearing.  Even when I go for a "no makeup" look, I don't leave the house without a little bit of color on my cheeks.
I have used a Bare Minerals powder blush for years and love it.  Recently, I decided I wanted to try a cream blush so I bought L'Oreal Visible Lift Blur blush in soft peach and it is amazing!! I haven't tried cream blushes in the past because I was intimidated by the application, but the L'Oreal cream is super blendable and easy to apply.  After trying a few different methods for application, I have a routine that works for me.

    Application
    1. Squeeze a pea size amount onto the back of your hand.
    2. Using your middle or ring finger (they have a lighter touch than your pointer) take a small dab and swirl it on your hand.
    3. Apply to your cheeks starting at the apples or on your cheekbone (see below).
    4. In a circular motion blend out and towards your hair line.
    5. Slowly add more blush until you have the intensity that you want.
    6. Set with a translucent powder.
    Apples or cheekbones?
    • Applying to the apples of your cheeks softens your face and makes it appear less angular
    • Applying along your cheekbones will reinforce the angles in your face.

    Casual Friday

Happy Friday the 13th!!! Last Friday I needed an outfit that would get me thru a busy day.  I went from work to errands to meeting my new baby cousin!  On days when I am not feeling particularly inspired I rely on my favorite basics to put an outfit together.  I topped my new jeans  and favorite striped t-shirt with a blazer.  Spring has finally shown up here so I didn't have to wear a coat.  As much as I love heels, on busy days I find flats to be a better option and loafers are my favorite.  I'm typically a girly girl but I love the menswear vibe loafers add to any outfit.

    Resolution Check In

At the beginning of every year I seem to make a crazy list of resolutions. While I have great intentions of making each year better, stronger, healthier  etc, after a few weeks I've typically gone back to my same old routine.  This year I am focusing on small changes that will make a big impact. One of these changes is to set aside "me" time every week.  Everyone's lives are so busy and I find myself never taking time to unwind.  I made a few rules to myself so I will completely relax during my "me" time.
Keep phone time to a minimum.
    Do something indulgent for myself.
    Spend 15-30 minutes reading.
Do not run errands or look at emails.
I typically make my "me" time one evening after work. My favorite way to spend it is a yoga class, indulgent shower and then a face mask while I read a good book.  It's only a few hours but it makes a big difference in my week and I know this will be a resolution I keep up with.
    Burt's Bees Mask

This mask is extremely hydrating and makes my skin super soft.  It only takes five minutes which means I find time to do it more often.
    Body Wash
After receiving it as a Christmas gift, I have fallen in love with this body wash and foam bath. The smell is very indulgent and makes any shower or bath feel special.

A Well Stocked Closet: The Perfect White Button Down

There is something to be said about a white button down. It is a staple piece and on almost every list of must own items.  The white button down doesn't have an age limit or specific style it speaks to.  There are literally hundreds of ways you can wear it and looks  equally great layered or on its own.

I categorize the button down 3 ways: classic, boyfriend and special details.  Classic is fitted, crisp, simple and of course classic.   The classic look is the best one for layering with sweaters, vests or other pieces.  The boyfriend has a slouchy, relaxed vibe and is more suited for casual outfits.  The last category is quite open ended.  Zippers, asymmetrical hems, and unique fabrics can take this shirt in many directions.

I've just found the perfect classic shirt and its already made it into heavy rotation in my wardrobe.

    Layering for Spring

I'm craving some bright colors!  We had a few days of nice weather and I swear I saw spring coming.  The next thing I know we are back to freezing temps and snow! I am completely over all of my winter clothes.  Since spring isn't cooperating, I have had to get creative to start incorporating my spring clothes.  I fought the cool temps by adding a few layers.  I added my favorite white button down, tights and over the knee boots to one of my favorite dresses.   Next week I'll be featuring some of my favorite white button downs.  When (if?) it finally warms up I can throw this dress on with black or nude heels and be out the door.

I have been throwing my new Kate Spade coat (last seen here) on with everything. It has become a go to in my closet. It will also be great for the rainy spring days in the next few months.  Don't you love when a new purchase works out so well?

Sales: Anthropologie is having 20% of dresses for a limited time! I have quite a few weddings to attend in the next few months and this, this and this would be perfect!

    March Fashion & Beauty Wishlist

I have rounded up a few things that I'm currently obsessing over.  I've been looking for the perfect espadrille for awhile and Loeffler Randall has nailed it this season. The Stella and Dot wallet doubles as a clutch and the mint green is perfect for spring.  A friend showed me this great tote Target has! It is  very Kate Spade-esque and will be perfect to carry my computer.  Stila has come out with a new lip balm that I'm dying to try. It promises the full pigment of a lipstick but feel of a lip balm.

    New Favorite Denim

I wish I was bringing you a spring outfit with soft, pastel colors but it is too cold out!! The late winter cold snap has kept me dressed in layers and darker colors.  I recently made a trip to Nordstrom Rack and picked up this Free People top and these jeans! Jean shopping is right next to swim suit shopping for me, I need lots of time, patience and really great lighting for a good experience.   A recommendation from my cousin led me to trying on these Joe's jeans and I'm obsessed.  They have just the right amount of stretch so they fit everywhere perfectly.  The ankle length is perfect for both booties and flats!  They have several great washes too.  I chose the darker denim color for the perfect everyday jean.
